Meung-sur-Loire & surroundings

At the centre of the Valley of the Kings

Meung-sur-Loire is not a stopover — it's a base. Located between Orléans and Blois, 1h30 from Paris, the town gives access to the greatest Loire châteaux without ever leaving real village life.

01

The village of Meung-sur-Loire

A small historic town on the Loire, Meung was the birthplace of Jean de Meung, the prison of François Villon, and home to Gaston Couté. Today: the riverbanks, the bridges, the Saint-Liphard collegiate church, the Roquelin garden, the Prés des Culands arboretum. Everything walkable.

02

The château with two faces

A hundred metres from the house, the Château de Meung-sur-Loire offers the rare quality of having two façades from two eras: medieval (13th century) on the town side, classical (18th century) on the garden side. Over 2,000 objects, from attics to undergrounds. A more intimate visit than the great royal sites.
